Scherbe experienced his musical socialisation in south-west germany and then relocated to Dresden in 2009. Considering the fact that he is a child of the American occupation zone it comes as no surprise that he drew inspiration from Afro-American culture for his music and for his cultural principles in general. Although he has a colourful musical biography skipping back and forth between Pop, Hip-Hop, Underground House and Drum’n’Bass he always seems to come back to his most important sources of inspiration, namely J Dilla, Theo Parrish and Pépé Bradock. Besides his solo activities and live performances, he also produces together with his buddy Peter Clamat as Citizen Funk whose records are released on Clamat’s label Big Bait Records.

This 4 track selection is purest scherbe-sound (below 120bpm) for hazy autumn days and nights, not only for clubs but heavy on the low rumbling in a smoked out basement !

Let it cool opens with the perfect percussion-progressive-lift and a weird japanese 90’s sample, surrounded by Scherbe’s favorite synth
“Korg Wavestation”. Van Purgis goes “wonky” like we love at Musique Large’s with this snare “giving the track a broken feel perfect for afterhours in small clubs where people are not so drunk but stoned as f*ck !” from the german artist words. Then the very strong, melodic and acid-like bassline of Cup of p hits the floor and your brain at the same time. This groovy and shuffling drums from mpc-diskettes needs repeated listening to grow-up, but Slice in the city is here to relax, with it deep sample from old disco/new wave, endless groove and georgeous „metallic“ open hihat.
