BARON RETIF & CONCEPCION PEREZ’ sound swims against the current, wisely taking the jerky path of sequences, nostalgic of a ltered house, with vocoders in French and escapes «Brazilian funk», Balearic foot, Parisian clubs, French Riviera « payotte » and transalpine disco. A flow of simple harmonies for sophisticated sounds. A groove from the origins, within a big bath of culture, dream of the islands. Music of the coasts and the sides.

Their beats: cadences shifted from the following, subsequent their EP Cascades, in 2012, and their rst album Navettes, in 2016. Funk is a guitar-less album, obsessed by «clavinet», the one from Stevie or Herbie.

The origin of the word funk is to be sought in the sweat, preferably from a game or a dance, but always seen as the fruit of the e ort, the one that leads to creativity and emancipation.

When the city sleeps, the duo records electric pianos and drums of collection, vintage analog synthesizers, thousand-year-old cymbals, latin timbales and percussions from di erent horizons. Sweating & combined with the ordinal sequence of the big computer. A nominal box, the digital rhythm.

The goal is within reach: to take the beat from the arti cial intelligences, to let the pulsation move, moving, dancing without robotizing, to think of not going too fast, to do it - never automatic - always elastic, it was the moment to record , many times in many years.

Two collaborations on this album:
> Raphael Guattari, the French-Brazilian of the Cluster Ensemble,
comes along to slide the nueva onda with his legendary phlegm tinged
with rnb and a crocodile story.
> Fulgeance the Norman producer who slaps with Souleance,
offers a high- flying French touch boogie bass line.
